Small Business Saturday

Friday, November 25, 2016

tomorrow is Small Business Saturday. A time to support local businesses, small businesses and family owned businesses. Don't get me wrong - I love Amazon as much as the next, but I also love the handmade, unique and original items that can only be found at small businesses. I love supporting a family, a mom, a teenager and anyone pursuing their dream.

In recent months my quilts have garnered a lot of attention. I'm currently in the throes of tshirt quilts and it has been so exciting seeing the inquiries come in. If you're in the market for one, whether personal or as a gift, feel free to email me or check out my Shop page for info!

I'd love to have your business this holiday season.

Halloween 2016

This year started off with Ava wanting to be a fairy. Completely adorable! But one day when I was changing out the trash can, she realized she could maybe fit inside of it and that it could be sort of like a costume. Which bloomed her idea to be a trash can for Halloween.

I had begun designing a New York City trash can, complete with the NYC Sanitation and Doe Fund stickers, when she changed her mind to a rainbow spider.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

One of the first quilt books I ever bought was Little Bits Quilting Bee by Kathreen Ricketson. It was, and still is, my quilting bible and I love all of her patterns.

I dove into this book head-first and, after two other quilts that I made as gifts, I made this quilt for personal use. I used a rainbow/flower theme and have always called this quilt April Showers Bring May Flowers.

Pixelated Heart

My best friend is getting married today and I couldn't be happier for her. She's marrying the man that completes her puzzle, who is there for her and her children and who is a best friend and support system - which is what we all need. I'm so happy she found Matt and that he found her...because she's pretty darn awesome. She's my best friend ever...someone I know I can count on to not judge me and just be there for me through thick and thin. We can talk for 10 minutes or 2 hours and it's seamless, funny and real.

So for their wedding gift, I wanted to make something that they would cherish forever and be reminded of their wedding day and love forever. Something that could be displayed on a wall, a bed, a couch and be passed down from generations to generations. A useful keepsake.

DIY Soft Alphabet

If you saw on my Instagram this weekend, I posted this photo and told you that I had these cut and ready to make about two years ago. Then I put them in my fabric box, shoved it in the closet and didn't touch them until now.

Truth is I've been sewing like mad the last week or two. I'm not sure what happened...I just got back into it and got motivated. I think creativity comes and goes in waves; it can get overwhelming and I stop because of the many demands I put on myself, and other times it comes full-speed at me and I embrace it all. I'm hoping it continues this way. I'm going to try and keep it as leisurely as I can...although my WIP (work-in-progress) pile is majorly overflowing.
